Office buildings which can be used on a multi-tenant basis. Every half floor can be made independent.
A heat pump system, using groundwater as exchange fluid, provides both cold and hot water.

It fully exploits the possibility to use groundwater (renewable energy resorce) and then drain it in a waterway running right on the limits of the site (Martesana).
Considering the large quantity of water involved, it has been a necessity to guarantee the functioning of all installations also in case the Martesana waterway should flood for any length of time.
For this purpose wells to re-introduce water into the ground have been implemented, which would only work in case of an emergency.
The thermo-refrigeration machines used are an evolution of the traditional reversible heat pump refrigeration system, being able to produce both chilled water and hot water AT THE SAME TIME (MULTI-USE UNITS).
Groundwater is also used to pre-cool the external air supply.
NO thermal power plant has been included in the Porta Nuova Garibaldi project.
The energy simulations carried out on Building A (30 floors) show the benefits obtained compared to a more traditional plant made of high efficiency condenser boilers and refrigeration units
